About Me: How does the brain translate what you want into how you act? For example, if you want to travel to Japan, what do you do with your right hand? This process of selecting actions to achieve your goals in a specific context is referred to as cognitive control, and it involves coordinating sensory, attention, decision making, reward, motor, and other neural systems to achieve your goals. More specifically, my research focuses on monitoring signals in the brain that reflect action outcomes to inform future rounds of action selection. My thesis project involves studying the interaction between rewards and surprise by comparing positive and negative outcomes when one or the other is more (un)expected. Outside of research, I love family, friends, and food! In my free time, I play ultimate frisbee and (used to play) alto saxophone.
